A breast prosthesis is an artificial breast shape that sits inside your bra to replace all or part of your breast. You use a prosthesis after you have surgery to remove the whole breast (mastectomy). For the first week after your surgery, you will not want to wear a wired bra. This is because your chest can be sore and the drains will be in place. Wearing a normal bra can cause you pain, or irritate the area where you had surgery.
